Chore charts for two kids
Siblings do not need identical jobs. They need a visible split. Fairness fights are usually about surprise assignments, not about who swept.
Print two charts or one two-column grid. Put names at the top in their colors. Rotate weekly jobs on Sunday, not in the middle of a Saturday argument.
One page or two?
Two pages if ages are more than three years apart or if one child weaponizes the other’s empty boxes. One page if they like racing. Racing is fine until it becomes sabotage — then split.
Rotate the grim jobs
Trash, litter box, and bathroom should move. If the same child always gets “easy” jobs, the chart is training resentment, not responsibility.
Questions parents ask
- What about a toddler and a fourth grader?
- Different charts, same review time. The older child should not be paid in “you’re the big kid” forever. Give them heavier jobs and a clearer privilege.
