Chore ideas for toddlers
Toddlers already want to copy you. A chart captures that window before they learn that housework is optional for them and mandatory for you.
Keep jobs under two minutes. If it needs a chemical, it is not a toddler job. If it needs to look nice, you will redo it and they will notice.
A starter list
Print pictures, not paragraphs. Two or three rows is a full chart.
- Toys in the bin
- Books on the shelf
- Clothes in the hamper
- Plate to the counter
- Shoes on the mat
- Help water one plant with a tiny cup
Make the environment do the parenting
Low hooks, a hamper they can hit, a toy shelf with two bins instead of twelve. A chart cannot compensate for a room that has no “done” state.
Questions parents ask
- Is a toddler chore chart worth it?
- Yes, as practice and language (“we put things back”), not as labor savings. The labor savings show up later.
