Chore chart for 3 year olds

Three is the age of “I do it myself” and also the age of dumping the hamper for fun. Your chart should expect both.

Keep jobs attached to meals and bedtime. Floating afternoon chores lose to play, which is their actual job.

What a 3-year-old can do

Use this as a menu. Your house, your safety rules.

  • Wipe a table with a damp cloth
  • Put dirty clothes in a hamper
  • Feed a pet with you holding the scoop
  • Carry a plastic plate
  • Pick tonight’s book

Skip these for now

Not because kids are incapable of growth — because the risk or the teaching cost is too high for a first chart.

  • Dishwasher with breakable glass at head height
  • Walking a dog
  • Independent bathroom chemicals

How to run the week

Offer two acceptable jobs rather than a yes/no.

A 3-year-old can ‘help’ make a bed by pulling one corner. Count it.

Reset the chart weekly so last week’s scribbles do not become the new baseline.

Reward idea: Sticker row toward a bakery muffin or choosing the playlist.

Layout: Picture chore chart or a 3-year-old weekly template from the library.
