Age 4
Chore chart for 4 year olds
Four is when helping can become a job with a checkbox. They still need you in the doorway. They do not need you to rebuild the bed afterwards in front of them.
Morning and bedtime routines belong on the chart more than “clean your room,” which is still too vague.
What a 4-year-old can do
Use this as a menu. Your house, your safety rules.
- Pull up a duvet
- Napkins on the table
- Backpack on a low hook
- Water a plant with a cup
- Match a few socks badly
Skip these for now
Not because kids are incapable of growth — because the risk or the teaching cost is too high for a first chart.
- Vacuum cords
- Cooking
- Carrying glass
How to run the week
Use a morning routine chart on school days even if preschool is short.
Let them check the box. Ownership is the point.
If they cannot read, keep icons and one word labels.
Reward idea: Stars toward a weekend pancake choice or a sticker book.
Layout: Star board or morning/bedtime split layout.
