Age 7
Chore chart for 7 year olds
Seven is a points age. They can add. They will also negotiate exchange rates. Write the rate on the chart so you are not doing mental math in the doorway.
This is a good year to retire cartoon clip art if it bothers them — our navy and terracotta templates print more “serious.”
What a 7-year-old can do
Use this as a menu. Your house, your safety rules.
- Load dishwasher with coaching
- Pack lunch from a list
- Wipe counters
- Dust a room
- Bring in mail
Skip these for now
Not because kids are incapable of growth — because the risk or the teaching cost is too high for a first chart.
- Solo stove use
- Litter box if anyone in the house has asthma concerns you have not cleared
How to run the week
Sports bag packing the night before prevents the 6:50am hunt.
If they share a room, split floor vs. bed so you are not grading a roommate dispute.
Reward idea: Points or a small weekly allowance hybrid.
Layout: Points table or weekly grid.
