Chore chart for 6 year olds

Six can read “make bed” and still ignore it. The chart is for the ignoring, not the reading. Keep the list short enough that finishing is likely.

Add one weekly job (folding washcloths, recycling) so they learn that not everything happens daily.

What a 6-year-old can do

Use this as a menu. Your house, your safety rules.

  • Empty plastic dishwasher items
  • Fold washcloths
  • Pet water and food
  • Clear their place
  • A timed living-room tidy

Skip these for now

Not because kids are incapable of growth — because the risk or the teaching cost is too high for a first chart.

  • Chemical bathroom cleaning
  • Walking a large dog alone

How to run the week

Homework can live on a separate line so a rough school day does not zero the whole chart.

Let them add one optional bonus job for extra stars.

Reward idea: Points toward a small outing or extra playground time.

Layout: Weekly grid with a weekend column that looks different.
