“Clean your room” is not a chore. It is a novel. Split it: bed, hamper, floor, desk, trash. Kids cannot hit a target you will not draw.
A photo of “done” taped to the chart ends 80% of inspections. Your standard can be lower than a hotel. It cannot be a secret.
The five-line bedroom
That list scales from age 5 to 16. Only the quality bar changes.
- Make bed
- Clothes in hamper or drawers
- Floor path clear
- Desk / homework pile
- Empty small trash

- What about toys overflowing bins?
- That is a storage problem. A chart cannot compensate for more toys than bins. Remove a bin’s worth before you add a row.
